AC advice sought.

The AC ceased to work in my vert. During the recent very hot spell we are having I wanted to use AC. AC clutch kicked in as normal when button pressed but after short wait, no cold air. Felt pump pipes; one getting hot, other warm. Went to AC shop to get it charged by a so called expert, as I thought the pressure was probably low. After evacuating and refilling several times, still no cold. Diagnosis - pump failed. Quote for new pump installed £700. Picked myself off floor and went away. Installed spare Seiki pump I had, took it to another AC shop I knew. Result was the same; runs but no cold. Guy says pump is working but likely to be a blockage in the system, probably the evaporator valve blocked or not doing it's job. Although I have understanding of AC systems, I have no detailed knowledge of the 900 system. Is it likely to be the evaporator valve and where is it, next to the evaporator? Or possibly blockage elsewhere in the system such as the receiver drier, which will need to be replaced anyway. Come on you AC guys, help me out. Don't want to go throwing parts at it all the time with it needing to be charged every time to test it. And asking so-called experts only to receive a wrong diagnosis.

I have located the Saab AC manual in the stickies which I am studying.
