I'm doing fluid top-ups with the 81 turbo and I've finally caught it out!
For a while now I've been noticing that the engine develops a very audible whining sound which seems to only occur when the engine has got up into the normal temp range. I don't believe is related to any intake 'leaks' but haven't fully ruled that out yet. From careful listening it sounds like it's somewhere either internal, or around where the intake manifold bolts to the head. I'll try to get a stethescope to have a listen with a bit more accuracy.
It seems to come and go and change pitch a bit depending on load and speed of the engine, but when the engine is idling, the pitch is about the same. It doesn't occur all the time.
Anyone come across something like this with an 8V engine before? Could it possibly be one of the K-jet injectors playing up?
Craig.
