Bad news first. Intake past the turbo is lined with oil. I suspect leaky seals.
Good news. Picked up one at Pick Your Part (50% off this weekend) that is perfect. NO detectable movement of the shaft. No signs of leaky seals. I also picked up a brand new red DIC. WOOT! For some reason, someone came along and took the black plastic inner cover off the DIC though. WTH?
$99 out the door. And I got all the flanges and such off with the turbo, so my damaged lower stud is now getting replaced.
Bad news again. Didn't realize just what a PITA it is to get the turbo out of the car. 2 hours in the junkyard with a car I don't care about. In 98* sun. Yuck. But now I know what I'm in for. So it'll be a couple weeks before I tackle this job.
