So I need to replace my tensioner...... I don't think it is the pulley because the noise is unlike a ball bearing sound.Talking to a couple other members I decided to use a long dowel rod...... the rattle just reverberated in my ear. It come and goes.
Looked at a Gates unit on Rockauto.... Say it's OE. But then I read someone saying that part of it is made in China and Turkey. Wasn't happy with the quality as the pulley wobbled. I'm sure it happens. Then I get on Eeuroparts and see a INA unit. Is it made in Germany or just designed there?
What I have now is a Dayco unit. About a year old. I noticed it had a plasticky rub sound (but no rub) vs no sound from my stock one when I replaced it. I just thought maybe it needed to be broken in a little. Now the rattle. I wonder what exactly the rattle is in the tensioner and is the Dayco unit OE? Probably not. A tad smaller or bigger than stock? Didn't compare the two when swapping out.
I was going to take the tensioner off just to look at it, but if I'm going to go through all that trouble I should have the replacement on hand anyway. I see this INA unit is OE. Just wanting to know if they are a quality part manufacturer from the Saab crew.
