Ordered a pair of Morimoto 5K's off RFS yesterday as I got the flickering becoming more frequent on my pass. side. Funny that it seems to be only the pass. side acting up. This will be my second D1S replacement excluding the stocks. I'll have to dig into my receipts to see when I bought this last pair of Osrams.
Just off the top of my head I'm guessing I'm changing them around the 2.5 year mark. DRL's disabled and run them about an hour daily.
I'd like to know what could possibly make a ballast go bad if the bulb itself burns out. This is my first xenon light equipped car so I haven't done any research into this type of setup and how things really work. Is the ballast kind of like a firing mechanism to brighten the light up? I see when turning my lights on they start off dim for a second and get full bright in no time.
Also, I've noticed that my lights no longer raise up from the bottom when turning them on. Instead they start off from the top to its level point. I adjusted the aim according to the online manual so no problems there. I think I messed them up when I turned them off and on again quickly ( another driver pissed me off) without giving them a chance to fully lower down. Wonder if there is a fix for this. If not...... Not a big deal I guess.
Lastly just wanted to know if it would be easier to remove the lens itself to install the bulb as opposed to doing it from inside the engine bay. Yes I did remove the intake hose the last time for more hand room, but it was a little difficult holding that cable to plug the bulb into it. Talk about no slack. I can take the lens assembly out in no time with just the 2 screws and pulling of the side grills to access them. Input appreciated.
BTW any of you running the stock H8 fogs, I just installed the Hoen Xenonmatch bulbs and true to the name, it matches up pretty good to the xenon light in terms of color and brightness. The stocks were more like a lantern compared to these. Only catch is about a 20.00 premium over your Phillips/Sylvania brands. J006 lead me to the Hoen brand.
