Hydroshield/Pre-filter/Drycharger Heads Up

When i bought my 07 9-5 aero last year it was stock engine-wise except for a forge BPV and a K&N cold air intake that the former owner had put on. apparently he had big plans for the car but had to get rid of it when his winter truck died. now i know there are a lot of strong feelings on the forum about CAIs, and if it were up to me i prob would have just gone with an upgraded drop-in filter, but at this point i'm leaving it as is, and just want to add some protection to prevent against the dreaded possibility of hydrolock. i can't imagine a crappier thing than to have the engine seize after all the work that's gone into the car because i drove through a puddle in just the right way. as far as i can tell the CAI setup on my car is from Genuine Saab, but i could be wrong. either way it's a K&N RE-0910 universal air filter.

my 2 options were 1) build a splash plate underneath the front bumper, passenger side, or 2) get one of those water-resistant wraps for the filter. only problem with option 2 is that no company, including GS or K&N makes a hydrophobic wrap for that size filter. K&N makes a dust guard - aka precharger - but not a "drycharger." go figure. i checked other companies too including AEM, Injen and others as well to see if i could find something close, but no luck. finally last night i came across a company called Filterwears, Inc run by a guy named Joe Emami that makes a lot of water-resistant wraps to fit filters but K&N and other companies. iI spoke with Joe over ebay, where they are sold, and ended up buying one for about $17. like K&N's wraps, Filterwears will drop the air flow by 6-7% but that shouldn't affect performance. They filter out small particles that might make it through the porous cotton filter. They need to be cleaned and re-waterproofed periodically, like every 6 months with something like Scotch Guard or Neverwet. I'm not recommending them to anyone at this point, but i'll write back after i've tried it out for a while. If anyone is in the same boat as me at least you might be able to find the right size wrap from this company
