Not that it needs it exactly, but it is sort of a preventative thing so as to have things done in a timely manner, before it really causes trouble.
Here's the problem I have. In the cylinder closest to the transmission (I forget what number it is), I have oil on the spark plug. It's not a real issue as far as the operation of the engine is concerned, and compression readings were nearly the same in all four cylinders. Consequently, I believe it to be valve seals in that cylinder. It obviously makes no sense to replace one cylinders' seals and not do the others. Problem is, I know I need to replace the timing chain & tensioner while I have it all apart. It is my only car, so I can't afford for it to be down more than a day. Is the stock chain, tensioner, & valve seal pieces plenty adequate, or are there other "upgrade" options out there that won't break the bank. I'm anticipating some minor head work (port & polish, and possibly shaving the head a little, depending on how safe it is), but am thinking about switching cams when I do it to a more agressive cam setup. I intend to buy another head, and work on it when I have funds & time, so it is all together when I'm ready to do it, and won't have the car apart for more than an afternoon...hopefully. I know people talk about T5 cams. If I ran them, could I use a 9000 2.3 head to begin with, or do I need the B235 head? What gains (if any) are there to be had with them? I don't want to go so big as the cams on GS, especially for that price.
Thanks for input.
