I recently picked up an 03 9-5 Aero that seems to have some kind of problem with the turbo system and I was wondering whereabouts I should look. Drivability is perfect, car tools around just fine under normal conditions.
First off the car is not that quick, my old lpt with a stg1 felt much more powerful (and this is supposed to have more hp)
The problem is when I jump on the throttle, the engine will immediately start revving up (so probably not throttle body) but wont get out of the yellow. Then suddenly the boost catches on and vtec kicks in yo, sorry for the joke. It feels very stepped and is not turbo lag.
The amount of time the lag last for changes, that's the confusing part. Sometimes when I'm getting on the highway, i can have my foot planted for a few seconds before the full boost kicks in, other times it does kick in immediately as it should, and did with my old car.
The car is a New England car and is pretty crusty underneath, the wastegate arm looks pretty groaty. I suspect a sticky wastegate the most, and its control valve as well.
I don't know if any of the vacuum control valves have been changed but I assume not and am willing to spend some money on them.
Diverter valve? Wastegate? BPC?
