My earlier posts show how frustrating this car can be and how often it needs repairs. It's left my son stranded on at least five occasions. Today was the latest incident. I had to meet him in the parking lot at school where he said that the car started losing rpm's on the way there right after passing up a slower car. It wouldn't idle and kept stalling. He had his old DI cassette in the trunk and swapped them out, thinking this might be the problem but no change. Once I got there I checked under the hood and immediately saw that the relatively new turbo bypass valve that I bought from The Saab Site in November of 2012 had blown apart. The right hand side, as you are standing in front of car, was down the side of the engine still connected to the vacuum hose. The diaphragm was also down there and I noticed tears on the edges on both sides. He's had a P0111 code for months which persisted even after we replaced all the vacuum lines with silicone. This bypass valve was a Bosch unit so it was not even considered as a probable cause of the P code. I'm now thinking that it was a Chinese made knockoff. I managed to reinstall the diaphragm and put the end piece on and used duct tape to keep it from popping back off. Got the car home and will pick up a new bypass valve at the local dealer in the morning. I'm relieved that it was a simple fix for once and won't cost me an arm and a leg. Anyone ever see this happen to a bypass valve before? ;oops:
