T7 DI spark knocks like hell

I've got a 2000 9-3 base model, brand new SEM black DI cassette sitting on top of NGK BCPR6EGP (G Power Platinum plugs analagous to BCPR6ES plugs)...and I'm getting spark knock. It appears the DI isn't detecting knock. It happens when the engine is warm, especially on nice warm days.

No MIL, no error codes, no nothing. I'm wondering if something as stupid as those G Power plugs is gonna make one whit of difference, and should I pick up a regular set of BCPR6ES plugs. If anything, the fine tip should increase the sensitivity to ionization rise in the cylinder. Or so I'd think.

The old cassette triggered the usual cam sensor codes, and never picked up knock either. Sitting on top of those G Power plugs too. The plugs are new.

Another couple of factoids worth noting:

I just picked up this car. Evidently, it has a K&N filter sitting in the airbox. I've not checked because I'm a lazy *******. I know the effects filter oil has on MAF sensors (coating the fine wire, etc)...but I'd think that the ECU would still retard timing if spark knock is detected.

Bottom line...it never sees the knock. Why?
