Audio and Visual Questions

Hello all!
I have tackled my non working dash light problem. As it had turned out, when I reafixed the knee bolster I had forgotten to plug in the glove box light, and the wires were arching. Glad I found the answer to my constantly blowing fuse 23.
Questions are as follows:
1. My dimmer switch (the switch pack one, not the one built into the dash fascia) does not change the intensity of the dash bulbs. I assume this means the switch is no good? Can it be repaired, or shall I thief one from another one of my Saabs?
2. I have an aftermarket radio. I have figured out how to wire up the front speakers, however the rear are a bit tough. I know that the rear speakers are powered from an amp (where this amp is, I do not know). I have isolated which wires correspond to which speaker. However, I assume these inputs are supposed to be a "low" input; ie what are the round RCA style connectors on an amp. I have cut the connector off of the connector the enters the stock radio for the rear speakers, and when I connect the high input signal from the headunit to the low input wires to the amp, it only plays from the right side and it has a ton of engine whine. My questions are:
  • Does it only play out of one side due to the low/high discrepancy? If I touch any of the other amp wires to anything it instantly cuts sound to the right speakers and I am left only with front speakers. Is there possibly a short on the left hand side?
  • I have a "low" output on my my headunit. Can I soldier RCA style connectors to the amp wire to properly power the amp? Will I have any distortion/feedback?
Thanks for your time!
Tom
