Hi All,
New here, and proud new owner of 99 model 9-5 (wife's car really). Lovely car, but...
Hoping to find some answers (aren't we all...).
I just found that the rear suspension upper control bushes (outer) are flogged, but not in a way that I'd expect from rubber bushes. They don't feel 'mushy' as I'd expect from geriatric rubber, but rather move with a defined clunk (my first thought was worn wheel bearings, but these seem OK).
The accessible bush rubber seems more like a boot(s), i.e. soft with no real resistance to being prodded, like there's a void behind thin rubber as you'd find with ball joint boots.
Feels like, and I suspect, that there might be a solid bushing in there behind the visible rubber (i.e. a spherical joint, similar to those found on some Toyotas, e.g. Supra / Cressida...), rather than solid rubber. Am I correct?
Also, just string-lined the toe. Rear toe is 1mm toe-in on the left and 1mm toe-out on the right (toe measured at wheel rim), so car will be 'crabbing'. Look as I might, I can't find any means to adjust rear toe (Saab, were you stoned when you designed the rear end?!).
Any experience / thoughts? Can this be corrected by nudging a subframe over....?
My job for tomorrow, get rid of the 13mm front toe-in...
TIA and
Regards,
John.
