Steering wheel lock malfunction

I have a 2006 Saab 9-3 sedan. I on occasion and more frequently here lately have been getting a "Steering wheel lock malfunction" and it will not let me turn the key to start my car. I had this happen with another vehicle in my family (not a Saab) a short while ago and $600 later I found out it was a $175 part that I could had replaced on my own in an hour or 2.

My question is if I replace the steering wheel lock does it require that any kind of Tech2 programming to be made for it to work properly or can I just order the part from Saab or a dealership and replace it myself? I know the issue is with the steering wheel lock itself and not electrical because I have to keep a hammer in my car so that when it happens I take the hammer and just reach under the dash and lightly tap the steering wheel lock mechanism and it works good for a couple days or weeks. I can't get my local dealer to answer my question because he wants to charge me for labor to do diagnostics and to install the part.

If anybody has replaced this part by themselves or knows for sure I would greatly appreciate the help. Thanks in advance.
