My sister owns a 1999 9-3 manual trans. She got off the freeway and found she had no clutch pedal and had to stall it in a parking lot. I met her and found her pedal all the way to the floor and brakes were slightly spongy. I checked her fluid reservoir and when i removed the cap... it was sticky and stringy. Her fluid is a dark brown/green color. After reading posts about mixing dot 5 fluid, I'm almost positive that the previous owner mixed fluids.
We removed the reservoir and tried to clean some of it up with carb cleaner and that just made it ball up and clog worse.
Does anyone know a way to get this out of the brake and clutch system. I've heard of some people flushing with denatured alcohol. But I'm afraid that if it clumps up more, it will completely block her lines.
Please help... Replacing the entire system for both clutch and brake is extremely pricey.
