I replaced the original thermostat yesterday (waxstat, 82 deg. C). with a new Tridon high flow. See this thread: http://www.saabcentral.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=390505
Initially I didn't think it made any difference. The temperature indicator behaved differently as the car warmed but but eventually settled in the same place (just shy of 9 o'clock). By differently I mean that it got into normal operating range (over 8 o'clock line) just as fast but then slowed down significantly as it kept climbing to 9 o'clock. That last climb would take 1 min. or so with the old one, not it takes more like 5 min. Which confirms my initial findings that the old stat was very lazy compared with the new one.
Today I monitored the temps with an OBD2 scanner. Before the change, I would see 95 deg. Celsius all the time and coming from a bmw 530i, that seamed perfectly normal. But now, even though the indicator shows the same temp, my scanner says 85 deg. C at idle and 81 with the AC engaged. That makes sense because the fans come on.
So if you still have an oem thermostat in there, I would kindly suggest that you consider replacing it. My car is 10 years old and has 85,000 km on it.
Cheers!
