I wanted a simple stupid install option that didn't mess with the beauty of the dash. Something that's easily removed. I thought about it forever and decided on the CD slot of the in -dash disc changer. It turned out brilliantly.
I decided on trying a metal bookend of the cheap office supply variety. I measured out the slot opening and found have the most usable width.

I stuck about 5/8" of the short end in a vise and bent it over to create the lip that the tablet would rest upon. The rear portion that would be inserted into the actual CD player was measured out to 4.5" and the rest was cut away and the cut edge smoothed with a file and sandpaper. At this point I'd created this...

I left all of my CD's in the unit and slid in my bookend mount.

It slid into the changer beautifully with the tablet fitting quite flatly with the form of the dash. Very slim.
