Workshop Manual Shop Book

Hi all...

New to the world of SAAB...

What book or .pdf does everyone recommend for working on our SAABs?

I just purchased a 2003 9-3 with 120,000mi on it...

Very clean car, starts perfect and seems to run perfect.

Now if I could just find a good workshop manual I would be set. Does anyone here have one? What's the best one to get?

2002 9-5 3 liter

The Fan/SAI fuse keeps blowing.

Replaced the secondary pump....still blows.

Pulled the blower motor and it still blows the minute I start the car up without the blower hooked up, so it can't be that.

Any Ideas?

Clarion CDC635: Problem, Question, Please Help

Hello Saab friends!

So, as the title states, I have a CDC635 that was installed and functioning perfectly when I bought the car.

This afternoon, however, it started to have some issues...

I use it almost exclusively for books on CD so it spends 2-3 hours on at a day, 1-1.5 hours at a time. After loading six new discs from a brand new, just unwrapped book CD 1 played just fine for about an hour this morning. At about 3:30 this afternoon, when it went to switch to the second disc it simply said "Disc 2 Wait" (or whatever the generic message is) and just cycled through until disc 6 when it went to the radio. When I put it back in disc 1 it played as if nothing was wrong. Eventually disc 1 would no longer play so I spent most of the afternoon listening to the radio instead...as a note: it was pretty warm out - mid 90s - but the A/C was running full blast all the way home.

When I got home I swapped disc 1 and 2 to see if the issue was the cartridge slot...it tried to play disc 1, but would not and skipped to 2 which played. I then swapped in a disc from another book that I have not listened to before and it did not play either.

At this point I found a write-up that more or less described my situation: http://photo.platonoff.com/Auto/2004...er_repair/?all

Unfortunately, when I opened my changer to take a look around it was quite different from the OE changer and there were no loose circuit board pieces floating around...

After spraying the board down with cleaner and cleaning the lens I put everything back together and plugged it back in...no change except that it will now play CD 1 again, but nothing else. At this point I unhooked the battery and ate dinner. After dinner I got everything going again and it reacted the same (played CD 1, but nothing else). I then swapped in a disc from the book I just finished last Thursday and both it and CD 1 played just fine.

So...my question is: Has anyone seen anything like this with an aftermarket or factory/OE changer? Any tips to help?

I'll probably end up stopping by the junk yard on the way home to see if I can grab another changer from an NG900 (or maybe a VW or whoever else used the C-Bus interface?)...nothing good on eBay now...I've seen them there before, but it's always a crapshoot.

Thanks

Driveshaft popped out / CV joint sheared and/or failed?

Hello to all

I've got a new problem.

This evening, whilst gently reversing out of my driveway as it's done for years, when I went to move forward, absolutely nothing happened. At first I thought that it must have been either gearbox or clutch related, as there had been no noise between de-selecting reverse (which had worked fine), and then selecting 1st to move off.

I couldn't understand it, so elected to just turn her off and push her back into the driveway for now. A helpful neighbour gave me a hand with the pushing and we were both pretty perplexed by what had gone wrong. Eventually, we looked underneath and noticed that the o/s driveshaft wasn't where it should be!

Front wheel off, and we discovered that the driveshaft is indeed hanging loose - although we couldn't figure out how this could possibly have happened? From the posted pics, you can see that the splines of the driveshaft itself appears to be fine, although we can see from the pic facing in, that the coupling for the shaft is pointing upwards and not aligned as it should be - could this have moved and just allowed the driveshaft to pop up and out?

I'm assuming that the CV joint is buggered and will need to be replaced, but is it? I'm not familiar enough with what they look like to know if it's complete or not, whether it's sheared or not, whether it's damaged or not? - it would be really handy to know what's allowed this to happen so that I know what parts I'm likely to need when I call and arrange for a mechanic to fix this for me.

PS - as an aside, I don't know if this is related at all, but the car recently had both front springs replaced for it's MOT - this obviously involved the entire suspension strut/hub to be removed to have this done - could it be have been re-fitted badly that's led to this? Just a thought, but it seems a little coincidental!

Many thanks for any replies - much appreciated as always.

20K Miles

This is a TD04HL-18T that Jak Stoll/JSP did. I believe the wheels were clipped and exhaust house work to give it more breathing, but keep the torque down low still excellent.

I have made plenty of photos so you can see the condition of the wheels and the turbo itself. It is in excellent condition with little shaft play (very solid and ready to go).

This was fully rebuilt while it had the 18T wheel and other stuff done to it. It used a spring on the wastegate (which is what was welded to it), but is not setup like that anymore.

Make a reasonable offer. Cost was over $1K.

Thanks!

I went from stock airbox to open air k&n strictly because I looove the turbo sound with open air. But I am mostly interested in performance. I want the best and cleanest performance, preferably with the turbo sound thrown in. Looking for opinions on this, would be appreciated.

coolant loss from overflow cap

Here's the story:
Wife driving and serpentine belt snapped. Pulled off highway as soon as she could but engine went into the red for a very brief period, maybe a minute. Towed it home, replaced the belt and car is basically running fine though it seems to be running a tad warmer than it did before the incident. Nowhere near the red, only about half way on the gauge instead of about 1/3 before.
However now I'm losing coolant through the resevoir bottle cap after shutting down from a highway drive. I've noticed some bubbling in the bottle and thought maybe air in the system and ran it with the cap off and topping it off until the bubbling stopped. Also retorqued the heads. Not seeing any signs of oil and coolant mixing and did a compression test and all cylinders were at 160lbs. Plugs looked perfect and no white smoking at all. Hoping its not a head gasket but can't think of anything else even though there seems to be no obvious signof it being bad. Any advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Unstable boost from 19T

I've had a 19T 6cm^2 installed for while now and I cant figure out what is causing the car to peg the boost gauge past 30psi. Even if I ease into the throttle the car accelerates smoothly but it sounds like there is turbo flutter and it oscillates very quickly between 20psi and 30psi.

Does anyone know what might be causing this?

Things about the car:
1999 9-3
tdo4 19t 6cm^2
Stage 5 tune from JZW -not sure how old or what the target boost is
t7 bpv upgrade - worked perfectly on previous Mike D tune so I think its wired correctly
switched bpv to another one and same issue
base boost set to ~8psi
new vacuum lines
3in dp and fmic
forge bov - not sure what color spring
stock fuel pump
3 bar map
BPV clicked like crazy with Mike D tune and now it doesn't click at all. APC fuse under the hood isn't blown

Vacuum Tube on an LPT 900 Classic

Hi, I have just bought a neglected Saab 900 Lpt (1991) and I'm giving it a service. I have knocked off a rubber tube near the oil filter, can anyone tell me where it goes?? I will post more constructive posts in the future, but for now - I'm reading thru the manuals & getting nowhere fast! Much appreciated, I think it's the one in the picture I found on the net. Regards, Dave
(- the tube was in front of the oil filter , now it's hanging)

Both keys suddenly not working in Saab 9-5

$

For some reason both of my electronic keys stopped working today. They won't unlock/lock doors and the car started and shut off twice and now it won't start at all. I replaced the battery 2 months ago and the alternator last week. I am starting to panic a little. I was away for the weekend and am afraid my car's computer was struck by lightning or something. From browsing the forums I have realized it is immobilized for some reason. Also the seat adjuster stopped working. (However windows, radio, dash, etc. all work!). If anyone has any advice on this it would be greatly appreciated, I am not too stoked to get it towed back to the mechanic yet. Thank you!

plastic flap impeding clutch and brake operation

$

Took the Saab to have struts installed and when picked up the car and I went to shift my foot/shoe got wedged between the clutch and a some kind of plastic flap under the dash. It's about 8x8 inches, has a hole in it (on purpose) but it's going to keep getting hung up when I shift. I'm not sure if my shoe did it, or the mechanics did it -- but that's beside the point. I can fold it up to the dash (it has a layer of insulation on top), but it just wants to fall back downd and I can't tell what is supposed to hold the flap up. I'm assuming some kind of clip or screw or some such goes in that hole. Though, I can't feel anything into which a screw/clip would go!

Weird question. But thanks!

COPY Hirsch Leather dash

Hey everyone, this is my first post and I am excited to join the community. I just wanted to share the custom leather dash I had done at a local upholstry shop. I, like many of us, think that the standard Saab interior could use some nicer materials in places, but I couldn't find the excuse to spend the money for a hirsch dash, (if I could even find one- 06 9-3 Aero). So I ordered a dash surround off ebay and 180 dollars Canadian later a local guy did a copy for me. I think it looks fantastic.
Installing it was hair-pulling, as (even after reading about a billion write ups on how to remove the vents and such) I managed to pull apart the left vent into all of its component pieces. 3.5 hours later I rebuilt it via trial and error. not fun.
Still it was all worth it, and I am very pleased with the result.
I was wondering, has anyone considered upholstering the SID cover up top? I think it would look good with matching stitching...

2006 9-5 OBD2 pinout? My brown/purple striped wire came out

I'm not sure which pin it goes back into. I have the WIS but for the life of me can't find the wiring diagram despite searching "OBD".

Here's a few pics if it helps...

In the first pic you can see the loose brown/purple wire (not to be confused with the solid brown already installed.

The 2nd pic is a front facing of the pins if that helps.

Thanks!

Turbo-x 6-speed purple fluid leak + problems

$

I have a '08 Turbo-X that is leaking pink/purple fluid around the turbo, it is a 6-speed manual.

I was under the impression that this would normally be transmission fluid, since it's a manual this doesn't exist, right? Is this XWD casing fluid? The car seems to perform fine.

I'm not sure what the exact part is called but in front (if looking at the turbo downwards) there is a metal piece in front of it with two metal pipes that lead into the engine. The bottom pipe appears to be broken or leaking--what the heck is this--I can't seem to even find a diagram of the turbo assembly for this year..

It also has recently become low on coolant and this also appears to be leaking, could these be related?

What's the risk of driving this until I can get it fixed in two days?

Speedometer Sluggish

$
0
0
Hi guys, I flipped through the threads here, but didn't quite find the answer I needed so here we go.

I drive a 2002 Saab 9-3 and last month the ABS module went on it (the speedometer and cruise stopped working and all the ABS/TCS warning lights would come on). I took it to the shop and got that part repaired and it seems to be working fine now.

The problem is that driving it today, I noticed that the speedometer feels sluggish. It kind of lags going both up and down, which it didn't do before. I just took it for a run with the GPS and looks like it's reading accurately (it's always read about 3mph above actual), but there's that lag that's driving me nuts. The tachometer appears to be working fine.

I assume this has something to do with how the ABS module was repaired or put back in the car. Does anyone know what might be causing the issue?

Thanks all for your help on this. I'm hoping this is not a big deal, but it's annoying enough that I definitely want to try and get it fixed.
