Does anyone want a couple of failed throttle bodies

$

0
I have two throttle bodies that I am getting ready to throw in the garbage.

One is for a 2003-2006 (grey housing); came of my wife's 2004 9-3 Arc sedan

The other is for a 2007- (black housing with clips); came of daughter's 9-3 Linear sedan

They were intermittently failing when I replaced them (could be reset using the throttle body programming technique: start car with accelerator to the floor, wait unit RPMs drop to idle/900, then release accelerator pedal).

Thought maybe someone rebuilds these things or otherwise wants to take one apart for yucks.

All you need to do is pay shipping.

If I don't get any interest in a week or two, into the landfill they go.

2007 9-5 Aero Turbo or Trans Issue?

I have a '07 9-5 Aero with 66k on it. Runs great except just recently when I try to accelerate to pass someone, etc. (at around 3500rpm) the turbo charges into the red and the car hiccups and loses power until I relax the accelerator and allow the turbo to move out of the red. It seems to be worse if I have it in sports mode. Otherwise, the engine generally has good power and acceleration.

Any ideas on what the issue could be? No engine light at this time...

Free XP laptops for Tech2 that I'd like to give away

As the title says, I have two laptops running XP with GlobalTIS installed (for security access) and drivers/Tech2Win set up for anyone using the Mongoose cable. They're taking up space and I'd like to get rid of them.

These laptops have serial ports so you can plug your clone in directly - no serial adapters or virtual machines to mess with.

One is a dual core Dell D820 with no battery (runs well but has to be plugged into power; $20 will buy a replacement battery).
The other is a Dell 600m (in good shape and runs fine).

These are free for pickup or delivery (within reasonable distance of the NYC metro area). I'll also ship them anywhere in the US if you cover the cost of shipping (roughly $15-20).

PM or email me if interested.

Air charge bypass hose split problem?

$

I was driving home and 97 900 turbo started running rough, felt like it was skipping when giving it gas and check engine light started blinking. I did not have time to check it out other then a quick look under the hood. The only thing I noticed was the rubber charge air bypass hose from the air intake to the bypass looked like it was cracked by the hose clamp. Would that cause stumbling during normal driving? I'm still a turbo newb.

Another question - where is the Dr. Boost sticky? I couldn't find it.

Fuel Door Actuator

My 2011 9-3 did not come with a locking fuel door. Having had sugar dumped in my tank once upon a time, I must correct this deficiency.

I picked up the actuator for my model and loaded the BCM module via Tech II and indicated that it had the locking fuel door.

But I can't seem to find a plug for the actuator. Does anyone know if the 2011 model was pre-wired for fuel door actuator? Where? Do I need to buy a wiring harness for the thing?

Retrospectively, I probably should have looked for the plug before buying the actuator and loading the BCM. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Headlight Switch and Fasten Seatbelt Light

Hello!

Thank you to those that have answered my questions in the past. It is greatly appreciated.

Today I got around to changing a few bulbs in the dash, more notably the headlight switch bulb and the fasten seatbelt bulb. But I have some questions.

1. For the headlight switch, when I turn the headlights fully on, the light in the switch goes out. Is this normal?

2. Is the fasten seatbelt light for the passenger seat only? It works properly when I start the car, but it goes out after a few seconds and never returns. Is this normal? Will it only illuminate if there's an unbuckled passenger in the seat of a moving car? Suspecting seat sensor woes, but I'd like to see if there's even a problem to begin with.

Many thanks for the help!

First Saab

I live in Charlotte North Carolina and recently purchased my first Saab. I run an auto repair shop and have a customer who owned a 2003 9-3 convertible 5 speed. He kept it in very good condition but had quite a few problems with it. One of the problems was an OBD code that was a problem with the throttle body and made it difficult to pass state emission inspection. He had someone rebuild the TB but the code came back and he became frustrated with the situation. I drove the car while trying to diagnose the situation and was really impressed with it. The owner tried to sell the car through the internet and thought he could get $2500 for it. I thought that was a good price for the car that originally cost over $43K and performed as well as it did. He got more frustrated with the situation and asked me if I would buy it. I didn't want it so I offered him a price that I thought would be below wholesale ($1200) and he wouldn't take it but if he did I might be able to drive it for the summer and then sell it for a small profit. He surprised me by taking my offer. I drove the car for a couple of months and I'm sure I drove it harder than the previous owner. I read about the problem with the oil screen and didn't think it would be a problem because I knew he had changed the oil regularly. One night I has driving it home and decided to take an interstate with a 70mph speed limit which means a lot of people drive over 80mph. I was in the middle of 4 lanes of traffic when I felt a some loss of power and noticed that the oil light was on. By the time I could safely get out of traffic and off the road the engine was knocking very badly. I was able to find a real nice 2000 9-3 convertible with a good engine and I got it for $800, cheaper than I could find an engine. In some ways it is better than my other car but it is an automatic. Now I need to decide whether to switch engines, if they are indeed the same, or put a crank kit in the original engine.

A 65" TV I wanted went on sale today and yesterday I had gotten an e-mail from Best Buy that I was eligible for a 10% birthday discount. Saved almost $600 over last week's price with price reduction and birthday offer.

How does this have anything to do with my SAAB?
I had gotten the shipping dimensions on line, over 66" long by 38 wide".
So I pull up to the curb and the two young men that brought it out look at each other after they put it in, laying flat BTW. I ask what's up. They said when they were inside and saw me pull up they said "no way". I said "WAY"........it's a SAAB.

Try to fit it in most SUVs.... no way......

Another incident in the day in the life of a SAAB owner that makes one smile.

2007 9-3 wont start

I picked up a 2007 9-3 Aero convertible in lime yellow yesterday for $300. Owner said it over heated. Reportedly took it to a shop and was told no compression. I pulled the front 3 coils and plugs. Coils look ok but the plugs do have a bit of oil on them. The oil is appears ok when checked, no coolant is mixed in. It does turn over but just wont start. I have some pictures of the cr and the plugs shared via OneDrive.

Any ideas where to start before just rebuilding or buying a used engine? How do I check to see if the coils are good or need to be replaced?

Would this work?

So I've got this 07 convertible and absolutely hate where the aux port is. I've read some things about a re-route which requires soldering etc. I have a center console assembly with the wiring from an 06. Is there any way to combine the harness from the donor console and place aux in where is used to be? I noticed that the placement hole is still there in the 07+ models.

Brake question

Yesterday I started to hear metal-on-metal when braking. No issues stopping, just noise. I could even hear the grind slightly when driving.

Pulled the pads and found the inner pad worn down to metal and the outer in good condition. Bottom of inner pad slightly worse than the top. The Akebono's were about 2 years old. I had this problem before and it seemed to go away, now it's back and wasted a set of good brakes and a rotor.

I replaced the pads and rotor, for now just on the one side. I made sure to grease the caliper slides which were gunked up but not frozen. No sign of fluid on the calipers and the piston came out straight.

Question: should I be able to hear a slight drag of the brake when I turn the wheel? I can hear it on the passenger side too but it seems to turn slightly more free though. Could be new brakes vs. worn in?

Also... tool question... finally got myself an impact wrench after years of doing car work. It handled the lug nuts just fine but couldn't loosen the caliper bracket bolts. Had to get a breaker bar and they came right off for me. Am I expecting too much? It's a Ridgid 18v model, supposedly 450ftlbs. A friend has an 18V dewalt and he takes off truck lugs. Disappointed to say the least. Not worth $150 just for lugs.

Aero interior colour

I have acquired a part beige aero interior including seats, and door cards, no carpet, dash, b pillar trim etc. I am considering putting it into my 96 csi that already has a aero front bumper and the tdo4 but I have a grey/black interior in my black 96 cse so it won't look good. I was thinking of swapping/dying the interior (trim/carpet/door) black and dying the seats and leather door cards red, is this sacrilege? And what do you guys think?

Remote start in a 9.7x - Advice needed

$

I picked up my new (to me) 2009 9.7x 5.3i yesterday, and have a list of things I want to do to it. Chief among those, is installing a two way remote start. I have read that many shops don't want to install these devices on Saabs, but I turn to the peanut gallery for input.

I am looking this particular product: CompuStar Prime T10

https://www.compustar.com/remote-start/prime-t10

Also, what is your opinion on DIY vs shop install. I would rather have a shop that knows what they are doing install it, but am I willing to do it with detailed instructions. I am between the Tampa and Orlando florida area, so if anyone is familiar with a shop let me know.

Thanks

Well I traded in my 2007 9.3 convertible for a 2009 9.7x 5.3i. It was sad to leave my 9.3 behind, but I am excited to have a 9.7x.

I have a list of things I want to do, care to offer some input? Also, what are some the best modification/upgrades you have done to your 9.7?

My List:
Remote start
Upgrade Radio
Tint windows
Upgrade exhaust

I would love to see photos if you have them.

Anyone ever shatter a fog light? This happened on the highway Friday. I was in left lane and a broken sway bar bushing from another vehicle bounced up and landed directly into my fog light. Glad it didnt come thru the windscreen!

Not happy with the Saab shop in Westmont. Brought the car in for recall and some work to be done. Asked them many times if they did a specific work and was assured yes many times yes. Took the car home and checked, the did not do it. Called them and they gave me a line of bull. I did the work myself now it's done right. WILL NEVER GO BACK TO THEM AGAIN......

Location of Fuel Pump Relay

Went to pull out of a parking space at work when the car just chug and die. Would not start back. Notice fuel pump was not coming on. It came on when I first turn the key. I always wait for the pump to prime and set the fuel pressure before cranking the motor over. So I know if was working.
Wanted to know where and which one is the furl pump relay. I believe it is on the drop down relay block which is inside, up under the drivers left side.
I feel the relays click and I measured volts at the fuel pump when the key is turn to on and crank. Thinking I have a bad fuel pump. Previous owner had replace it before. It only has less than 10k miles on the pump. Wouldn't think it would give out this fast. What to locate this relay so I can hot wire the pump to see if I can get it to run.
Which one of these is the relay for the fuel pump? This is for a 2002 9-5 V6 3.0 ARC Wagon
