CD player issue with customer's car

Have a 2005 9440 convertible in the shop. Had a bad ICM3 which was unrepairable. Sourced a refurbed ICM2. Installed and married with Tech2. In-dash CD changer now does not work. Don't know if it worked before, but it is full of CDs. ICM lets you select CD player, but no sound comes out. What am I missing?

Apparently instead of spring fever I have caught SAAB fever. I have recently bought an 06 9-3 combi as a build car and now I can't stop thinking about getting a 9-5 to replace my 07 9-3 ss daily driver.
I don't have any experience with the new 9-5s so some advice would be greatly appreciated. I am currently eyeballing this one but I'm a little apprehensive since it would be a sight unseen since I'm in MD and its in MI.

Hot Positive Battery Cable

2008 Saab 9-3 2.0T

Trying to solve a no start issue. After running a charger the car will start. But if it is driven a ways, turned off, it will not start. Checked battery voltage, below 12 volts.

Put a new battery in with full charge same result.

Positive battery cable running to the starter gets extremely hot after starting, after a minute it is so hot it burns immediately. The battery post is not that hot. Checked and cleaned the battery connection, it's good. Started the car and put a load on, the connection to the fuse block is good, no voltage drop. Checked the cable from the battery to the starter, there's a drop of 1 volt. This is confusing to me as what in the starter would be drawing current only when the car is running? The cable is not hot when not running.

Connecting Rod and Main Bearing Cap Numbering?

I disassembled the engine in my 2001 Aero today, but genius that I am, I forgot to write down or even remember what end of the engine that the numbering on the connecting rods and the main bearing caps starts at. The caps are stamped 1 through 5 and the connecting rods are stamped 1 through 4. I'm assuming that number 1 goes on the same side of the engine for both.

Hello all, I have been wondering about these two models for some time. I have read that the v6 9-3 is supposed to be the quickest fastest Saab made but I have read a bunch of webpages saying the 9-2x is quicker/faster.
What do I believe? here are some examples...
2006 9-3 aero 2.8 6.2 and 14.7
2005 9-2x aero 6.0 and 14.5

Now that this part of the question is out of the way...
Which is the better car? is there any consensus from owners?
reliability, cost of ownership, most fun to drive, ease and cost of upgrades?

2 Year Fix Finally Fixed? Stalling Issue

Hopefully my latest fix (used evap purge valve) for a stalling issue is the final fix. It's been 2 weeks now and the stalling issue is gone in my 1999 93 convertible. Just wish I had made this move 2 years ago as had been suggested on these forums back then. I guess my expert mechanics don't read these forums...or listen to me when I tell them what the folks on the forums suggest;oops:

My driver side headlight connector has disintegrated so I need a replacement but can't find the original. I bought a generic ceramic 3 prong connector for 9003 bulbs from Amazon and will attempt to install it soon but was wondering if there is a source for the original connector or a preferred third party connector?

Radio Knob Pots Size?

Hello Friends, I have a little issue with the OEM navigation unit. My nephew took my knobs off and they are gone. I purchased a couple different guitar knobs and am looking to retrofit these onto my oem radio. The knobs look amazing and will pair nicely with the head unit, however, the Pots metal stub is too short and narrow for the guitar knobs. My solution so far is to solder some brass tubing onto the existing pots to get it extended a little then add on the guitar knobs. Does anyone have a measurement for what size the pots metal stubs are on the oem navigation unit? Since the guitar knobs have a set screw it can handle 2mm to 6mm.

I've tried to as much research as possible but I'm drawing a blank so any suggestions are welcome! I'll update the thread with any fix.

Symptoms:
Car at idle: perfect, have to check the revs to know it's on.
Full throttle: perfect, fast and responsive

The car on light throttle seems very unsure. If you put the car into a gear and rev to 5k rpm and let off it loses speed quickly and jerks about. If you are driving on the motorway if you want to accelerate from your current speed you have to prod the throttle quite a bit to get it to go faster.

My only two conclusions are throttle body or potentiometer. There are no fault codes, coil packs are fine and I replaced the spark plugs as they are a little worn.

The second symptom is when approaching a roundabout and then stepping on the gas it can drop the revs quite harshly, like the engine cuts out for a moment. I was thinking this may be a worn auto box(130k miles) rather than related to the throttle issues.

Any help will be appreciated.

2007 9-5 Glove Box Failure

So, my glove box door flopped open and it will not stay closed and I have no idea why.

I took apart the latch area on the door and pulled it out. I cannot understand how this thing works. Nothing appears broken, but this mechanism is very confusing. I checked online for tutorials on how to assemble it and all I found was a very cryptic diagram on the bits that comprise the door.

I guess something just slipped? How do I put this back together? Is there a tutorial that I missed?

2005 saab 9-3 engine coolant loss

I have a 2005 saab 9-3 that on warm humid days like today (91 and much humidity here in south kc today) after driving the vehicle and turning it off the car will loose over a half a gallon of antifreeze. The last time it happened was a few weeks ago on a Saturday with similar weather.

I have looked over the car and do not see any signs of antifreeze leaks and have been monitoring the fluid level and stays good til all of a sudden. My suspicion is there should probably be a cooling fan come on after the car is shut off if still warm. My guess is the coolant coming out of the fill / overflow tank but have not been able to verify. (always happens when my wife happens to be driving the veh.) I get a call and run to parts store, get coolant and go fill.

HISTORY

I did find a couple wires below the fuse box a while back that were broken and corroded. I fixed them and did not see any others broken or damaged but the broken ones kept my ac from working because it controlled the cooling fan. I looked again today and still see no broken wires.

Are fans to come on when hot after veh is shut off? Is so, does anyone have any information on what controls them or any known problems for this.

Any ideas or suggestions?

HUGE Vacuum leak?

Sadly, my fun in a stage 2 NG 9-3 convertible has come to an end after a harsh WOT run. After that run up to 50 mph, i let off and the car just started sputtering and surging accompanied with a hissing/whistling sound. sounds like a really bad vacuum or boost leak that the run caused. the car is 18 years old now with 197k, so worn out hoses are expected. the car starts up fine, but the surging is insane, going from 400 to nearly 3k rpms then back down and again. the exhaust also smells like it's running really lean.

Strangely, there is NO check engine light and this has happened before. The first time it happened, i just shut the engine off and pulled the key out, then put the key back in and started the car, and wallah, all was normal again. I didn't think about it much until it happened again yesterday, but this time it was worse and something broke.

If any of you can give me a diagram on the intake and exhaust, it'd help me greatly in finding the leak and see if it's worthwhile to keep this car alive. Thanks.

6 3/4 speaker in door: difficulty?

Simple question that may yield some not-so-simple answers: how hard is it to put a 6 3/4" speaker in the 9-3 door (given that the stock speakers are 6 1/2"). Is it as "simple" as tapping out screw holes for the 6 3/4", or does it require removing some of the door frame? Are there other clearance issues to be aware of?

Pictures would be great if you have them!

Background for my question: as I'm sure many of you audiophiles are aware, there are a lot more 6 3/4" speakers to choose from than there are 6 1/2" speakers. If I can make a 6 3/4" speaker fit, that's the route I'd like to go.

Reinertsen's closed; where can I get key codes for a 2007 9-3?

My 84 year old mother loves her saab 9-3, but the chip in her key fob has failed and she lost her back up key. The dealer, Reinertsen's of Denville NJ has closed and the succeeding Fiat dealership has also failed, so her key codes are in the wind. Any ideas on how to get her on the road again?

Broken Fan Relay Connector Housing

I'm trying to replace the fan relay on my Turbo X. While trying to disconnect the electrical connector, the sliding cover on the housing snapped off. The top slide is out far enough that I can grab it with pliers and pull it out to release. The bottom slide is still tucked in and there isn't much room to work with due to the engine to try and release it. Does anyone have any tips on how to release these connectors once the end has snapped off? The attached pictures show the connector with the sliding cover snapped off. In the second picture, I'm holding the piece that broke.

Idle all over and dying at stops

I have a 1999 93 with a b234 2.3l I rebuilt and have about 3000 miles on it. Ive just recently started having a idle issue. When stopping sometimes it will just start revving to 3k for no reason or sometimes just rev up and down. It will also still have a open throttle randomly when I left of the gas (wont fall back to coasting idle will stay at 2k). Also getting a code but no cel p0507 which is idle to high but really no info on these cars for it on the web.

Now it has start to either stall when at lights or dead stops and sometimes dying! But then there's times where its completely normal.

I just cleaned the AIC valve and swapped the TPS with another one I had. Worked well for a day or so now this. CPS is less the 10k on it and oem, DIC is less than 10k oem too. Also throughly checked for vacuum leaks and nothing.

Im not sure what to look at next, if anybody has any adivce or insight I would greatly appreciate any help.
